Dai Arashi

Have you ever had one of those days where it seemed like everything goes wrong? Everyday is like that for me.

Dai Arashi

Seriously, in preparing for my high school prom, I fried my hair with the curling iron. That evening it rained and ruined my make up. And, if that wasn’t bad enough, my date spilled red punch down my cream-colored dress. Now, imagine stuff like that happening all day, every day and you’ll get it.

Well, I started at Paragon University last fall, though I’ve kept mostly to myself. I’m majoring in meteorology because I have always wanted to study unexplained weather phenomena – why storms appear suddenly where none were predicted.

About a week ago, after finishing my normal routine of dropping my books and papers all over a crowded hallway, tripping up a couple of stairs and bashing my knee, and getting my hair caught in a closing window (don’t ask…), I thought to myself ‘How can my day get any worse?!’

The answer came when I decided to work a little late at the weather lab to make up a bit of time I had missed last week because I had tried to catch a heavy book falling off a bookshelf and ended up at the nurses’ station with a broken pinky. All of a sudden one of those strange storms came up out of nowhere. ‘What a great opportunity!’ I thought, and started entering data from the storm into the computer. A sudden power surge from lightning fried the computer and sent me flying into a desk.

When I came to, I realized I was in the hospital… the hospital?! My luck, while sometimes painful, has never ended with me in the hospital before. What did I do to deserve this? Had I been one of those villains I’d heard about on the Rogue Isles in a past life and am now atoning for my sins?

I waved for a nurse hoping she could explain what the deal was and an unexpectedly strong wind blew up in my room. It was like there were a storm raging inside, knocking the nurse back into the wall.

A doctor was quickly called in and she explained the situation. Apparently, two days ago, I had been knocked unconscious by the surge. The doctor told me that when the lab tech. found me the next morning, I was ice cold and had lightning playing around my fingertips and through my hair.

Apparently, the surge altered me physically on the cellular level. I can now create ice from air and summon a variety of storms. I have become an explanation for the unexplained weather phenomena I have always wanted to study.

While I was at the hospital, I was told that because of these new powers, I’d need to register at City Hall. So, after I was released, I took a trip across town and signed up. I need to learn to control these new abilities so I don’t hurt anyone else. The good news is that Paragon U. has classes specifically for people needing to learn about their powers. Let’s hope I can do that quickly so my luck doesn’t rub off on anyone else!
